First Defense

First DefensePurpose

To protect the borders of our nation from the enemy.
It’s probably better to read ‘How it came about’ first as it’ll help to make sense of the purpose.

Matthew 28:18 tells us that “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to…” Jesus. ‘All’ means everything – 100%. If Jesus has it all then satan and all his hoards have none – 0%! Paul explains in Ephesians 6:12 that our battle is “not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”. This is a fact and a truth we must take seriously if we want to be effective in prayer and make a difference in our world.

First Defense is about taking seriously the issues we face as a nation and tackling them head on. Many, if not all, have their roots in the spiritual realm which means that we (Christians) are the only ones qualified and able to deal with them effectively. These issues include: weather, pests, disease, immigration, drugs, trafficking, politics, economy, employment, commerce, health & social, gambling, religion, media… you get the idea.

It is not legitimate for Christians to throw their hands in the air and say “what can I do?” when we have the Living God who has granted us the power and authority through His Son Jesus Christ to overcome darkness with light. We are not useless or powerless…unless we choose to be!

First Defense is a strategic approach to making a difference in the issues we face as a nation. By working together with prayer networks across the nation we can tackle the issues spiritually ‘as one’. The same can be done at different geographical levels – county, city, town & village.

Praying as one doesn’t necessarily mean together at the same time; the importance is that we ‘covenantally agree’ – we agree over the issue and commit to interceding/petitioning until it has been fulfilled. We will call these ‘assignments’. This is either by seeing the answer come about or by knowledge in the Spirit that the assignment is complete.

Matthew 18:18-20 is key to our understanding.
Verse 18; “Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven”. Binding and loosing on earth what is already bound and loosed in heaven is about coming into agreement with heaven.
Verses 19-20; “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst”. Agreement here is covenantal – agreeing in this way together (on earth) means that our Father (in heaven) will join in agreement and see it is done.
There’s more to expand on here but that gives you the idea.

How it came about

On 2nd June 2010 a taxi driver travelled down the Cumbrian coast killing 12 people, injuring 11 and then killing himself. This was not only devastating to the west coast and Cumbria as a whole, but for the whole nation. After I had heard the news I felt the presence of the Spirit and heard His voice inwardly say; “You can make sure this never happens again.” It didn’t stop there. As time has gone by He has spoken similar things to me; about the economy, weather, immigration, trafficking, and so on. Finally He showed me two words – “FIRST DEFENSE” – exactly like that…including the spelling!

Using ‘s’ instead of ‘c’ may be the American way to spell it but this time they’ve got it right! The extended forms of defence changes its spelling, such as defensible, defensive, defensiveness, and defensively. Not only that but the historical root of the word is also with ‘s’.
